Deductible Savings Calculator
Raising your deductible lowers your premium, but the real question is whether the yearly saving is worth the bigger bill at claim time. Using USAA's real filed Georgia comprehensive-deductible factors - which fall from 1.00 at a $500 deductible to 0.71 at $1,000 and about 0.38 at $2,500 (SERFF USAA-134740517) - this calculator shows the premium at each deductible next to what you would owe out of pocket, so you can see the tradeoff. Every factor is a real filed value.
Weigh the deductible tradeoff
The factors apply to comprehensive coverage (collision follows a similar but separate curve). Enter what you pay for comprehensive at the $500 baseline; the tool scales it by USAA's filed Georgia factor for each deductible and shows the out-of-pocket you would owe at a claim. It is an illustration from one carrier's filed values, not a quote. To see your real numbers, run a quote.

A worked example
Say your comprehensive coverage costs 300 dollars a year at a $500 deductible. Move up to a $1,000 deductible and USAA's filed factor of 0.7142 cuts that to about 214 dollars - a saving of roughly 86 dollars a year - but you would now owe 1,000 dollars instead of 500 at a claim, 500 dollars more out of pocket. At that rate it takes close to six claim-free years for the premium savings to cover the extra 500 you would pay once. Go the other way to a $250 deductible and the factor of 1.3186 raises the premium to about 396 dollars, 96 dollars more per year, to lower your claim-time cost by 250. The right deductible is the largest one whose out-of-pocket you could comfortably absorb - the premium savings then work in your favor every year you do not claim.
Frequently asked questions
Does a higher deductible really lower your premium?
Yes. In USAA's filed Georgia data the comprehensive factor falls from 1.00 at a $500 deductible to 0.71 at $1,000 and about 0.38 at $2,500 - a lower premium in exchange for a bigger bill at claim time. The calculator above shows both sides for your own premium.
How do I choose the right deductible?
Pick the highest deductible whose out-of-pocket you could comfortably pay after a claim. Compare the annual premium saving to the extra you would owe once, and keep an emergency fund that covers your choice.
Is the collision deductible the same as comprehensive?
They are set separately and follow similar but distinct curves. This tool uses USAA's filed comprehensive factors; your collision deductible has its own factor, so price both if you are deciding.
Where do these numbers come from?
From USAA's Georgia personal-auto rate filing, SERFF tracking USAA-134740517. They are real filed comprehensive-deductible factors, listed in full above, not estimates.
Is this a quote?
No. It is an illustration built from one carrier's filed Georgia factors to show the deductible tradeoff. Your real price depends on your full rate and every other factor. Run a real quote to see your actual number.
