Filed Car-Insurance Rate Changes (2022–2026)

Updated

When a carrier changes its auto rates, it has to file the change with the state's insurance regulator first. We read those filings. Below are the actual overall rate changes carriers filed since 2022 — the real numbers, not a forecast — each linked to its SERFF filing so you can verify it yourself.

How we know these are real

Every figure above is the overall rate-level change the carrier stated in its own filing memo or rate exhibit, and it carries that filing's SERFF tracking number — the identifier the state regulator assigns. You can look any of them up at the state's SERFF Filing Access site. We don't estimate or forecast these; we read the filings. Rate changes vary by state, by company within a group, and by driver profile, so a filed "overall" change is the company-wide average — your own renewal can move more or less than the headline number.

This tracker grows as we digitize more of the roughly 4,900 filings in our corpus. It exists because no one else publishes it: the industry reports rate forecasts; we show the filings.

What to do when your rate goes up

A filed increase is the single best moment to shop. Here's why: every carrier files its own change, and they don't move together — the company that just raised your rate is often no longer the cheapest for your profile, while another may have just cut theirs. A few steps that actually help:

  • Compare before you renew, not after. Once the new term starts you're paying the higher rate; a quick comparison at renewal is where the savings are.
  • Ask what changed. A filed "overall" number is an average — your specific increase depends on your ZIP, vehicle, and record. Sometimes a coverage or deductible tweak offsets it.
  • Check discounts you've earned. Paid-in-full, homeowner, multi-car, telematics, and good-driver discounts are all filed factors — make sure yours are applied.
  • Don't drop coverage to chase the number. Compare the same coverage across carriers; a cheaper price on thinner protection isn't a real saving.

The fastest way to see whether your carrier's increase is still competitive is to compare filed rates from several insurers for your exact profile — that's what our quote comparison does in about two minutes.
